How much does a concrete driveway cost in Northern Virginia?

Driveway cost is driven by driveway length and width, finish choice (broom vs stamped vs decorative), reinforcement spec, apron and tie-in work at the street, and any required tear-out, regrade, or drainage. Broom finishes are our value tier; stamped finishes are premium. Every project gets a fixed written estimate after an on-site walk-through — never over-the-phone square-foot guesses.

Concrete vs. asphalt: which is the better choice?

Concrete: 25–30+ year lifespan, higher upfront cost, low maintenance, handles freeze-thaw well, no resealing required. Asphalt: 12–15 year lifespan, lower upfront cost, needs sealing every 3–5 years. For NoVA’s climate, concrete is the lower lifetime-cost choice for any homeowner staying 8+ years. Asphalt is the right call for shorter-horizon properties or extremely cold-microclimate sites.

How long until we can park on the new driveway?

Light foot traffic: 24–48 hours. Passenger vehicles: 7 days. Trucks or heavy loads: 10 days. Full cure (peak strength, sealer-ready): 28 days. We mark off your pour, give your family clear instructions, and follow up at the 7-day mark to confirm you’re good to go.

How do you prevent cracking?

Three things work together: (1) Stable base — excavated and compacted before the pour. (2) Reinforcement — welded wire mesh or rebar, with extra rebar on edges where stress concentrates. (3) Control joints — strategically placed to direct any natural cracking into hidden lines instead of random spots. Hairline cracks are normal on any slab; this approach minimizes them dramatically.

Do you handle the permit?

Yes. New driveways and expansions typically require a permit from Loudoun County Building & Development, Fairfax County Land Development Services, or your town’s office. Like-for-like replacements that match the existing footprint usually don’t. Either way, we handle the paperwork — you don’t have to navigate it.
