Pool Deck Concrete
in Northern Virginia.— brushed or stamped, sealed for the season.

Non-slip finishes · pool-safe sealers · integrated drainage · Loudoun & Fairfax

Pool decks live a tougher life than other concrete surfaces — constant water exposure, chlorine and salt chemistry, full sun, and bare feet. The finish has to be safe when wet, comfortable in the heat, and resistant to the chemicals that ride along on every cannonball. We pour pool decks in two finishes — brushed (broom) for clean simplicity, or stamped for natural-stone character. Both are sealed with pool-safe products and drained properly.

Concrete pool deck around backyard pool
— What we pour

Built for water, sun, and bare feet. — not just any concrete.

Got a pool going in, or one that needs the deck around it redone? Pool decks live a tougher life than any other concrete on your property — year-round water exposure, chlorine or salt chemistry, full sun all summer, bare feet, and furniture dragged across them. What makes a pool deck a pool deck isn’t the slab itself; it’s the finish (slip-safe when wet), the sealer (rated for pool chemistry), the slope (away from the pool), and the joint detail that handles seasonal movement next to the pool shell.

We work alongside your pool company on new installs and handle replacements around existing pools. Brushed (broom) finish for the cleanest, lowest-cost option that’s naturally slip-resistant. Stamped concrete for the natural-stone look with anti-slip aggregate added to the sealer. Most of our pool decks are across Loudoun and Fairfax counties — backyards in Ashburn, Leesburg, Brambleton, Fairfax, McLean, and Reston — wherever the pools are.

Finish options

Two finishes for pool decks. — brushed or stamped.

Most common

Brushed (Broom) Finish

The standard pool-deck finish for a reason: natural slip resistance from the broom texture, easy to clean, holds up beautifully under chlorinated and salt water, and lowest cost. Clean, simple, and safe. Sealed with a pool-safe sealer to handle chemistry exposure and UV.

Premium

Stamped Concrete Pool Decks

The premium choice. Stamped concrete reads as natural stone — slate, cobblestone, ashlar, flagstone — with patterns that complement the pool and landscaping. We add anti-slip aggregate to the sealer for wet-foot safety. Custom borders, accent bands, and integrated coping options.

Both finishes

Pool-safe sealers

Whichever finish you pick, we seal with a pool-safe sealer rated for chlorine, salt, and UV. Sealers protect against chemical etching, freeze-thaw, and stain — and need re-application roughly every 3–5 years depending on use.

Drainage

Slope & drain detail

Pool decks are sloped away from the pool (typically 1¼″ per 10′) for water management. Where decks meet structures, we install an expansion joint and a drainage detail to keep water from pooling at the house. Around the pool itself, we either tie into existing coping or install new.

Joints

Control & expansion joints

Pool decks see seasonal movement from freeze-thaw, sun exposure, and pool-shell flex. We place control joints strategically (so any cracking goes on planned lines, not random splits) and expansion joints at structure tie-ins. Joint placement gets coordinated with the stamp pattern on stamped decks.

Existing pools

New installs & replacements

We pour new pool decks alongside new pool installs, and replace cracked or worn decks around existing pools. For replacements, we coordinate with your pool company on tie-in to existing coping and skimmer/drain coverage during the demo.

Our process

From measurement to first swim. — coordinated with your pool.

01

Site walk & design

We walk the pool surround, measure for slope and drainage, discuss finish choice (brushed or stamped) and any custom borders, and confirm coordination with your pool company.

02

Demo & prep

If we’re replacing an existing deck, we demo carefully around the pool. New decks: excavate to depth, compact base, form to design, set slope away from pool.

03

Pour & finish

Reinforcement laid (welded wire mesh standard). Concrete poured, leveled to slope spec, finished broom or stamped per design. Stamping happens within the cure window for clean texture.

04

Seal & ready

Pool-safe sealer applied after initial cure. Walk-through with the homeowner on care, sealer re-application timing, and when it’s safe to put furniture back. Full cure for swim-season-ready use is 28 days.

Why us for pool decks

Pool decks live a harder life than patios. — we spec for that.

01

Non-slip by design

Brushed finish or stamped with anti-slip aggregate in the sealer. Wet-foot safety is a default, not an upgrade.

02

Pool-safe sealers

We seal with sealers rated for chlorine, salt, and UV. Not patio sealer. The sealer choice is what separates a 5-year deck from a 15-year deck.

03

Drainage done right

Slope away from the pool, expansion joints at structures, control joints placed by hand. Water management isn’t an afterthought.

04

Fully insured & warrantied

1-year limited workmanship warranty on every new pour*.

Common questions

Pool deck questions. — what homeowners ask first.

01 How much does a concrete pool deck cost in Northern Virginia?

Pool deck cost is driven by deck size, finish choice (broom vs stamped vs decorative), prep around the existing pool shell, drainage and slope work, and any slip-resistance treatments. Brushed (broom) finishes are our value tier; stamped and decorative finishes are premium. Most NoVA pool surrounds run 400–1,000 sq ft — we provide a fixed written estimate after an on-site walk-through.

02 Is concrete safe around a pool? What about slipping?

Yes — concrete is the most common pool deck material in NoVA precisely because the finish is so customizable for slip resistance. Brushed (broom) finishes have natural texture that’s safe when wet. Stamped concrete can be made safe with an anti-slip aggregate added to the sealer. Both are safer than smooth pavers when wet, in our experience.

03 Brushed vs. stamped: which should I choose?

Brushed wins on: lower cost, easier maintenance, naturally slip-resistant, clean modern aesthetic. Stamped wins on: natural-stone visual, custom patterns/borders, complements traditional or premium landscaping. Both perform equivalently in NoVA’s freeze-thaw climate when properly sealed. Stamped costs about 70–90% more.

04 How long until we can use the pool deck after the pour?

Foot traffic: 24–48 hours. Furniture & light use: 7 days. Sealer applied: 7–28 days depending on the sealer product. Full cure for chemical resistance and swim-season-ready use: 28 days. We’ll mark off the pour and walk you through timing.

05 Does a pool deck need to be sealed? How often?

Yes. Pool decks see harder chemical and UV exposure than any other concrete surface on your property. We seal with a pool-safe sealer rated for chlorine, salt, and UV. Plan to re-seal every 3–5 years depending on usage. We can come back to re-seal or you can DIY with the same product.
