Decorative concrete patio
— What we build

Concrete as a finished surface.— not just a slab.

Decorative concrete is the design upgrade above a standard patio pour. Instead of a single gray surface, you get integrated color, stamped patterns, antique-release contrast, and custom borders. Every element is poured into the concrete itself — not painted on top — so the finish lasts as long as the slab.

We pour decorative patios across Northern Virginia. Each one starts with a finish selection: color hardener (the base tone, mixed into the surface), antique release (the contrasting darker color that adds depth), pattern (if stamped), and sealer schedule. Customers serious about decorative get invited to browse the full library of past finishes after their estimate.

Decorative finishes

Five decorative options. — layered for depth.

Color base

Color Hardener

Integral color mixed into the concrete surface. Works with broom-finished, smooth, or stamped patios. Available in dozens of natural earth tones.

Contrast

Antique Release

Darker contrasting color applied during stamping. Creates the depth and aged look that makes decorative concrete read like stone. Always paired with color hardener.

Custom color

Acid-Stained

Chemical stains create variegated, marble-like color patterns. More unique than color hardener — each stained patio looks different.

Pattern

Stamped Patterns

Slate, cobblestone, wood plank, ashlar, herringbone, or custom patterns stamped while concrete sets up. See our stamped concrete page for the full library.

Detail

Borders & Inlays

Custom borders around a patio interior, color-contrasted bands, stamped accents, or inlaid stone. Each design built to the property’s lines.

Premium

Multi-finish Designs

Combinations — smooth interior, stamped border, color-shifted accents. Designed in person, poured as one integrated patio.

Our process

From color pick to final cure. — weather permitting.

01

Finish selection

We send sample finishes — color hardener combinations, antique release contrasts, pattern options — from past Northern Virginia jobs. Once you’ve picked, we lock the design.

02

Site prep

Excavate to depth, compact the base, install forms and reinforcement. Drainage slope set away from the house.

03

Pour & finish

Pour the concrete, broadcast color hardener, float into the surface. Apply stamps (if stamped). Apply antique release for the darker contrasting color and depth.

04

Powerwash & seal

Once cured, powerwash off the excess release and apply a concrete sealer. Leo recommends resealing every 2 years to keep the color depth.

Common questions

Decorative concrete questions. — what homeowners ask first.

01 What’s the difference between decorative concrete and a standard patio?

Standard concrete is a single gray slab with a broom or smooth finish. Decorative concrete adds color hardener (mixed into the surface), antique release (darker contrast), optional stamping for patterns, and sealing. Every decorative element is integrated into the concrete itself, not painted on top.

02 Will the color fade?

Color hardener is integral, so it doesn’t peel or wash away. UV slowly softens the antique release contrast over years. Leo recommends resealing every 2 years to restore the color depth.

03 Will my decorative patio crack?

There’s a saying in the concrete trade: there are two types of concrete — concrete that has cracked, and concrete that hasn’t cracked yet. All concrete cracks eventually. Our job is to control where: we compact the base properly, reinforce the slab, and place control joints by hand so cracks happen on planned lines instead of random splits. Our 1-year limited workmanship warranty covers structural cracks that meet the size/length thresholds — see full warranty terms.

04 How does decorative concrete compare to pavers?

Pavers give you color variety and easier individual repair. Decorative concrete gives you a single integrated surface, no weeds between joints, and lower maintenance. For most Northern Virginia homes, decorative concrete wins on long-term value.

05 How much does a decorative patio cost in Northern Virginia?

Decorative finishes add to the base cost of a standard patio. Stamped + color hardener + antique release adds more than just color. We give a real estimate based on size, finish, and access after a site visit.
